Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Scoutly (https://www.usescoutly.app) helps businesses find people who are publicly asking for a product or service. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers two groups of people: users who sign up for Scoutly, and authors of public posts that appear in our search results.
Information we collect from users
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored hashed by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password or access to your Google contacts, Gmail or Drive.
- Setup preferences: the kind of business you run, the categories you want leads for, and your home city, region, country and search radius.
- Activity in the product: searches, saved searches and alert settings, lists, notes and feedback such as marking a result as “not a lead”.
- Technical data: cookies needed to keep you signed in, and standard server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) used for security and debugging.
Public posts we index
We collect posts that their authors published publicly on sites whose terms allow it (for example Hacker News, Bluesky, GitHub and Stack Exchange), using those sites' official or permitted access methods. For each post we store the text, link, publication time, community and the author's public username, plus an automated summary of what the author is looking for. We do not collect private messages, we do not guess or look up email addresses from usernames, and we never crawl Facebook, Nextdoor or LinkedIn.
If you wrote a post that appears in Scoutly and want it removed, email hello@usescoutly.app with the link. We remove it within 7 days.
Content you bring in privately
If you forward emails or paste text or links into Scoutly, that content stays private to your account. It is never added to the shared search archive or shown to other users. We store the extracted post text and link, not the full original email.
How we use information
- To run your account, show you relevant leads and send the alerts you set up.
- To classify posts by intent, category and location so they can be searched.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To send service emails (for example, sign-up confirmation and alerts you opted into).
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that help us run Scoutly:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Vercel — hosting
- Google — sign-in with Google (only if you choose it)
- AI providers (Google Gemini or Anthropic) — classify the text of public posts and content you bring in; they receive the post text, not your account details
- Resend — sending email
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Retention
- Account data is kept while your account is open and deleted when you delete it.
- Posts our system decides are not buying requests are deleted after 30 days. Other indexed posts are kept so they remain searchable, unless the author asks us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
You can update your setup at any time in the app. You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information by emailing hello@usescoutly.app; we respond within 7 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We only use cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to keep the service secure. We do not use advertising cookies.
Children
Scoutly is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
